Grails 2 dependency resolution is very slow

Over time the dependency resolution has become very slow. Any idea how to fix it or what to do?

My log output( please note that for each pom or sha1 file it took around 5 mins):

Re: Grails 2 dependency resolution is very slow

Hi,

I've seen a similar issue using a snapshot repository (in my case it was spockframework one). Do you have "mavenLocal()" in your repos list ? Any sensible firewall settings which can leads to timeout on each dependency resolution ?

cheers

Re: Grails 2 dependency resolution is very slow

omadruga
Got this yesterday.

maven.glassfish.org is not responding, and grails-melody use it to retrieve jrobin.jar

Had to override this is my app to use jenkins-ci mirror and fetch jrobin.jar

Re: Grails 2 dependency resolution is very slow

In reply to this post by smaldini
Hi,

I had Spock issue but this is completely different. I used the grails 2.0.0 zip artifact which is available for public download. I faced the same issue on Ubuntu but when I switched to the *.deb artifact everything was normal.

Speaking of firewall, I disable iptables completely and we have a company firewall which I think is not the issue, for everyone the dependency resolution is fine. They are on Ubuntu and using the *.deb artifact.

Any other guesses or fixes? I'm on CentOS presently.

Reduce the number of remote repositories you are using. If necessary
disable remote repos used by plugins and use your own local repository
manager (nexus or artifactory)

This will reduce your resolve times. The more remote repositories you
use the slower the resolve time will be

Cheers

Re: Grails 2 dependency resolution is very slow

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. I get the error below after a long wait:

                ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
                ::          UNRESOLVED DEPENDENCIES         ::
                ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
                :: org.grails.plugins#yui;[2.6.0,): not found
                ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I have grails-ui and yui in application.properties and I think both use yui version 2.8.2.1 but the grail-ui plugin is trying to resolve 2.6.0. Does maven's open ended dependency has something to do with that?

I found the keyword "maven's open ended dependency" on gmane forums I think.

Re: Grails 2 dependency resolution is very slow

After switching from grails 2.0.3 to 2.1.0RC2 I get the same problem

                ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

                ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

                :: org.grails.plugins#yui;[2.6.0,): not found

Is there a solution for this problem?

Re: Grails 2 dependency resolution is very slow

If it happens when pulling certain plugin you do this in BuildConfig.groovy#plugins

        runtime (":grails-ui:1.2.3"){
            //for unresolvable dependency yui:[2.6.0,)
            excludes "yui"
        }
