Is there any known issue running Grails on Windows 7

netwiser
Hi All,

I am experiencing technical difficulty on Windows 7 with Grails. I was developing web app using Grails. It works fine on XP and Vista with JDK 1.5.0 update 21. Now I am using Windows 7 professional, and the Grails web app can not work. All test cases pass, the index.gsp under web-app can be rendered properly, but all the links to controllers return blank page. I used tcpip monitor to check the response code and it was 200 but nothing rendered. Then I have tried JDK 1.6, 32/64 bit and JDK 1.5 update 12 but no luck. The same code base is working fine on XP with JDK 1.5.0_21. I did a lot of google search but no clue either. Can anybody shed some light on it? Please!

The environment I am using now:
Windows 7 professional 64bit, Grails 1.1.1, Eclipse Build id: 20090920-1017 32bit, JDK 1.6.0_16 32 bit, the plugins I installed are RichUI, Searchable, Mail, all are latest version.

Because the new machines coming shortly are all employed with Windows 7 professional 64 bit, it will be very difficult to downgrade to Vista or XP.

Thanks in advanced.

Regards,

Jame

You nothing rendered. What exactly do you mean ? Are you talking about
the browser (IE 8 I assume which comes with W7) not rendering
response?  Did you see the response (the HTML itsefl) ? Did you try to
access with wget or whatever the windows equivalent might be for the
command line option. Did you try it with firefox?

Hi,

Sorry for not making the thing clean. Nothing means that no matter what kind of browser I used, in this case, I used IE 7, Firefox 3.5, Opera, Chrome and IPhone Safari, to access the server, but got all blank page except the index.gsp. I viewed the page source, there is nothing in there, not even a single <html> tag. Tcpip monitor return the http response code is 200 but no payload at all. Nothing also includes nothing in stacktrace and log file as well as console.

For instance, I have a category controller and Searchable plugin installs a searchable controller for me. When I access http://server:port/context/category/index or http://server:port/context/searchable it supposes to render the index view for category or searchable controller, but in browser, nothing but blank. I tried something not exsit, it returns 404 which is normal.

I have to mention one more point here, the project was developed with Grails 1.0 then 1.0.4 and recently upgrade to 1.1.1. It was working fine all the time on XP professional, Vista Ultimate and CentOS.
