Notes on the new JIRA for plugin authors

pledbrook
Hi,

The new JIRA will have a substantial impact on plugin authors. First,
the plugins get their own JIRA project, which means they can have
their own teams and other customisations. The project lead for each
one is currently whoever was the component lead in the Codehaus JIRA,
so some of you will already be project leads. All other plugin
projects have me as the lead.

So, if you want to become the project lead and aren't yet, then please
contact me. Once you are the project lead, you can assign JIRA users
the "Developer" role in your project. This allows you to assign issues
to them and allows them to edit and resolve issues.

To add or remove members, click on the Administration link at the top
of JIRA and select the relevant project. In the next screen, click on
the 'View members' link next to 'Project Roles:'. The grid displays
the project roles in the rows, and Users and Groups in the columns.
You will need to know the usernames you want to add beforehand because
the user browser doesn't work - sorry.

If you need a JIRA project for your plugin, let me know and I will
create one for you.

Finally, please take time to do a little bit of housekeeping for your projects:

1. Clean up the project versions - your project may have versions from
other projects for example. Also, you can drop all "Grails" prefixes
and just use numbers - yay!
2. Go to your plugin's portal page on grails.org, click "Edit plugin"
and enter the JIRA URL for your project in the Issues URL field

Note: you won't be able to do number 2 until after this weekend - I
have to deploy a new version of grails.org. However, it's tested and
ready and you can try it out on beta.grails.org for the moment.

As always, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Peter

I ran into issues with the deployment, so you still can't do this.
Sorry. I'll send another email when it is finally done.

Regards,

Peter

New version of the site has now been deployed, so please update your
plugin portal pages with the correct information for Title,
Description, Documentation URL, Source URL, and Issues URL. Here is an
example:

    http://grails.org/plugin/gwt

I also recommend you update your plugin descriptors with the extra
meta information described here:

    http://github.com/grails-plugins/grails-maven-publisher-plugin

Look near the bottom of the page under the section titled "New to 0.7"

Thanks for your help,

Peter

Hi,

It's been brought to my attention that all the imported plugin
projects have a space in front of their name, which affects the
ordering of the projects on the "browse projects" pages.

I'd be very grateful if project leads could remove the leading space
from their project names. Sorry, it wasn't picked up in testing.

Thanks,

Peter

Change of plan: if you would like any change to the JIRA
configuration, including the addition of new projects, please raise an
issue here:

Thanks,

I should have mentioned: thanks to Burt, all the leading spaces have
been eliminated.
