Slow IDE

Quantumuniverses
I'm using STS (SpringSource Tool Suite) and if I type something (like simple
tabs or spaces) then STS takes a long time to respond: why?

It seems to happen with long files .groovy..

Any idea?

Re: Slow IDE

Please ask this question in the STS forums as opposed to Grails user list.  You will get much more visibility on STS issues there.

Thanks,
Bobby

Re: Slow IDE

Andrew Eisenberg-2
I can answer this question here, but yes, you will generally get a
quicker response if you post to the SpringSource forum.

We are not aware of particular slowness with STS.  But, there may be
something specific about the code that you are working on that is
causing the slowness.

How large are the files that you are working with?

Can you raise a jira issue here?
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GRECLIPSE

And I can help you work through this.  Thanks.

Re: Slow IDE

Thanks.  700 lines is not particularly large.  You shouldn't see
significant slowness with a file of that size.  Please raise a jira
issue and we can help further.  Also, do you see any errors in your
error log?

Re: Slow IDE

Yes, Andrew meant the STS error log.  Visible if you go to
Window>ShowView>ErrorLog (that's mac, somewhere like that if on
windows).  Does it have anything unexpected in it?

As for a jira, raise one at
https://issuetracker.springsource.com/browse/STS to cover the slowness
and we can use that to track progress on the problem.

cheers,
Andy

Nothing appears when I type into that long file.. (for example a simple tab,
which takes 2-3 seconds)

In reply to this post by Andy Clement
I don't know if it's connected or not to my STS slowness, anyway when I
perform a text search in my project/workspace often happens an error, like
the following one. Any idea?

Problems encountered during text search.
File 'HelloWorld/target/classes/resources.class' has been skipped, problem
while reading: ('Resource is out of sync with the file system:
'/HelloWorld/target/classes/resources.class'.').
Resource is out of sync with the file system:
'/HelloWorld/target/classes/resources.class'.
File 'HelloWorld/target/classes/resources$_run_closure1.class' has been
skipped, problem while reading: ('Resource is out of sync with the file
system: '/HelloWorld/target/classes/resources$_run_closure1.class'.').
Resource is out of sync with the file system:
