grails won't generate indexes - postgres

hi,

I'm having currently the issue that grails plainly refuses to generate
custom indexes in my postgresql 8.4 database. And there is no clear
verdict if this works or not.

For example the docu clearly states that grails supports generating
indexes in version 1.3.7:

but in this thread it's stated that it doesn't work

So I'm wondering if this is now possible or not to generate indexes
and if it's not possible, would it be possible to remove the wrong
information in this case fromt he database or update the related
issues that it indeed works and with a description how?

I really think this is a required feature, which people need and keep
running into and there is no clear verdict available.
